Technical Diver Series Phase II

Description
Technical Series - Phase II

Phase II is a shorter program than its predecessor. It reviews the main points from Phase I then moves into an in-depth study of helium based diving.

Heli-Air:

Heli-Air is a helium-based breathing mixture where the oxygen content is always less than 21%. It is a safe blend to mix since helium is simply adding into air. You never handle pure oxygen yet still achieve what is considered a full tri-mix blend. By its nature, the limiting factor is the oxygen percentage; it must stay above 16%. This gives Heli-Air a max depth limited of 180 feet.

Tri Mix I:

Tri-Mix I divers are trained to dive up to but not to exceed 200 feet. Tri-Mix I mixes oxygen, helium and air to achieve an END depth of 80 to 130 feet, depending on the divers preference. Beyond that point, gas volumes and the use of hypoxic mixes becomes more of an issue.

Tri Mix II:

Tri Mix II allows divers to utilize any gas (hypoxic or not) to a depth of 250 feet. This is the maximum depth that NAUI recognizes for its training. In reality, any dives made beyond that depth requires the same knowledge base. Tri-Mix II obviously requires more gas usages, planning, etc.

Overview & Pre-requisites
You’ll Learn...

  • How to analyze your own breathing gas mixtures
  • How to plan and safely execute each dive
  • How to calculate gas consumption, oxygen exposure and inert gas loading for each stage of the dive and for each breathing gas mixture
  • Review and demonstrate switching and isolating a malfunctioning regulator
  • Participate in a diver rescue simulation to include management of a diver experiencing oxygen toxicity underwater
  • Demonstrate proficiency of at least two of the required dives ascend with ascent reel and line bag and perform stage decompression
