Cayman Brac
Date: March 26th - April 2nd, 2011
Now is the time to book next year’s spring break vacation to guarantee the best prices. Sub-Aquatic Sports has chosen this Cayman Brac trip to coincide with the Kalamazoo/Mattawan school break. 'Brac' is located 86 miles off of Grand Cayman and unlike the bigger island, it's less touristy and, in our opinion, has better diving. If your idea of a vacation is exciting nightlife and endless shopping, then this isn’t your trip. But, if you want to relax in a hammock, watch sunsets from a small ocean side bar and enjoy quality dives, then you’ll love Brac.
Brac Reef Resort: Accommodations are at Brac Reef Resort, which recently under went a huge renovation project. The architecture reflects the quaintness and charm of the Caribbean style. This package includes standards rooms but upgrades are available for Junior Suites. Suites have higher-end furniture like recliners plus an I-pod dock, mini-fridge, DVD players and dual Shower heads.
Diving: Reef Divers will spoil you. It’s one of the few places where you never haul gear. A staff member will pick up your equipment on the first morning and set it up on tanks based on your preference for every dive. In the evening, they rinse and store everything. The boats are modern and well equipped with rides running 5-20 minutes depending on the dive location. Boats depart at 8:30 am for 2 tank morning dives with an optional afternoon boat dive at 2 p.m. Over 50 dive sites are mapped around the island and all offer exceptional visibility, little or no currents and water temperatures in the low 80`F. The most famous site on the island is the Capt. Keith Tibbetts shipwreck. . In 1996, this Russian frigate was sank as an artificial reef and renamed after the late owner of Brac Reef. The forward half of the ship is broken up but there’s still plenty to explore. Five inch guns are found fore and aft, along with a wheelhouse tower that is easy to penetrate.
Meal Plan: Breakfast and dinners are included in package #1. Package #2 includes breakfast, lunch and dinner plus 2 bar drinks per day. The restaurant on premise offers casual indoor air-conditioned dining. Meals are served buffet-style with theme dinners featured nightly. Outside by the pool, you’ll find the Tipsy Turtle, which offers outdoor alfresco dining in a relaxed bar setting.
