About Us - Our Staff
Shane Newmyer
Shane is a graduate of WMU with a degree in French language (I would love to use my French while diving again – Regulator = Detendeur) and World History. Working (playing) with computers has always been a hobby of mine and now I make a living working at working with them at Perrigo. I love working with new technology and being a SCUBA diver/instructor allows me to use the latest and greatest diving technology.
I have always wanted to dive. James Bond movies were a huge influence in giving me the diving bug. (The underwater fight seen in “Thunderball” really did it for me.) It wasn’t until I was living in France that the chance came my way to learn how to dive. I was first certified to dive while I was studying abroad in France in 1996. I dove a few times when I returned to the United States, but it wasn’t until 1998 when I went to the Bahamas that I realized how much I loved the sport and that I wanted to teach SCUBA to others. I became an instructor in June, 2000 (NAUI #35199).
Where: Inland lakes in France & Switzerland, French Rivera (the Med), the Bahamas, West Palm Beach, the Keys, Cozumel, Yucatan centotes, the Straits of Mac, Tobermory, Canada, Bordman and St. Claire rivers.
Passions: I enjoy all types of diving; from jumping in a pool to jumping into the ocean. I just enjoy being under the water. But if I had to choose what I like the most about diving; I would have to say the shipwrecks. I am a student of history and what better way to study it than to see it and touch it in person. Shipwrecks in the Great Lakes have such a tremendous history and I can be a part of that each time I dive them. Tobermory has a great collection of wrecks, but I hear Whitefish Point is even better. Whitefish is at the top of my list of “undiscovered” dive sites that I must dive. Each time I try to go to Whitefish, I either have to go away on business or something else gets in the way. NOT THIS YEAR!!!!! ? I would also like to get into underwater photography/videography. I share the studio with Rob and would love to put it to good use.
