Big Animal Adventure Northern Bahamas

June 30 -July 6, 2012

Dolphins, sharks, turtles, rays, the list goes on and on. If you’re looking for a ‘big animal experience’ then northern Bahamas is the place to go. The marine life is exceptional with a backdrop that is just as impressive. Dramatic walls, coral mounds and shipwrecks of every size provide a protective habitat.

Welcome aboard the Sheer Water liveaboard, the fastest vessel of her size running Bahamas excursions. This trip departs from West Palm Beach Florida and crosses the Gulf Stream to West End, Grand Bahamas. It is called ‘Big Animal Adventure’ because your chances of seeing big marine creatures are high. Sharks, dolphins, rays and enormous sea turtles are almost guaranteed.

First stop is snorkeling with Atlantic Spotted Dolphins. Off the shore of Grand Bahama is a 20ft sand bank where dolphins hang out to sleep during the daytime. They also love to play and interact with humans. You will swim to the point of exhaustion and once the group cries ‘uncle, enough dolphins’ we move on to the next adventure.

Next stop is the world famous Tiger Beach. “As seen on TV (Shark Week, National Geo) this dive will change your mind about these denizens of the deep. Again, you’ll sit in only 20ft of water but now surrounded by lemon and tiger sharks. Meet well known tiger shark "super models." like Emma, Baby Cakes, Tanya, Begonia and Mini-T. Lemon sharks also frequent the site and are sometimes referred to as the Labrador retrievers of the shark world.

Of course, no trip to the Bahamas would be complete without diving on the dazzling reefs and wrecks. Up to five dives are offered each day. In my option, Bahamas has the best reefs of the Caribbean! The Sugar Wreck is a must see for seeing marine life. It sits in 15 feet of water and is a popular fish habitat. Few dive sites can compete in fish density and diversity to the Sugar Wreck.
